Farm Yoga, Tech Time, Magic Show, Butterfly Hike and Summer Nights

Here are the highlights of what’s happening around town this week.

Tuesday, August 24, 2021

  • Young farmer for a day (9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.) @ Chestnut Hill Farm: For grades K-5. Children will meet farm animals, learn about farm-fresh foods, hike trails, create nature crafts, and explore the farm and its surroundings from the perspective of its most important member of the team: l farmer! Each session will have a different theme. Pre-registration (and fees) required. For more details, see the dedicated post.
  • Book Bugs: farm fun for toddlers (10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.) @ Chestnut Hill Farm: Pre-registration (and fees) mandatory. For children 2-6 years old, adult supervision is required (brothers and sisters under the age of 1 can participate for free). Bring your little bug. . . on the farm for an interactive children’s story hour. We’ll read a farm story, make a craft and explore the farm! Each day will have a different theme such as “Goats and Sheep”, “What is a Seed” or “How Vegetables Grow”. For more details, see the dedicated post.
  • Tuesday Technical Time (4:00pm – 5:00pm) @ Southborough Library Teen Room: Need help with technology? The staff and teen volunteers will do everything they can to help you. Bring questions about e-books and e-resources. This is a fall event; no registration necessary. For more details, see the dedicated post.
  • Yoga on the farm (6:00-7:00 p.m.) @ Chestnut Hill Farm: Join Ruth for a 60-minute slow-flow yoga practice where guests coordinate movement with breath to transition from pose to pose, ending with restorative poses. Pre-register for $20, proceeds will go towards providing yoga to underserved populations in the greater Worcester area.
  • Tuesday Technical Time (7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.) @ Southborough Library Teen Room: Need help with technology? Library staff and teen volunteers will do their best to help you.   • College Farm Wednesdays (9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.) @ Chestnut Hill Farm: For children entering grades 6-8. Middle school students will get to know the surrounding farmland, animals and trails. A typical day will include hiking and nature exploration, relationship-building games, and creative time for art and journaling. Each day we will focus on a different topic.   • The Ed Popielarczyk Magic Show (4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.) @ Southborough Library Back Lawn: All ages welcome to this fun outdoor magic show with a bit of comedy! No registration necessary. Sponsored by the Friends of Southborough Library. For more details, see the dedicated post.

  • Preschool Farm Explorer Fridays (9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.) @ Chestnut Hill Farm: Pre-registration (and fees) mandatory. For ages 2 years 9 months to 5 years, adult supervision required (discount for younger siblings and siblings under 1 can participate for free) Your little farm explorers will be fully immersed in life here at Chestnut Hill.   • dull men’s club (10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.) @ Southborough Senior Center: Weekly, casual senior men’s social club. New members are always welcome. For more details, see the dedicated post.

Saturday August 28, 2021

  • summer nights (5:00 p.m. until dark) @ Neary Fields, 53 Parkerville Rd: The annual, free late-summer festival. This year’s event will be limited to a slew of food trucks selling dinners and treats, a live concert (from 6:00 a.m.), and fireworks. For more details, see the dedicated post.
  • Wild March of the Monarch Butterfly (6:30 – 8:30 p.m.): A ranger and naturalist from the administrators will guide a 30-minute hike on farm trails and teach about monarch butterflies and how different types of plants and animals cope with universal change that the earth undergoes over the seasons. . Keep your eyes peeled for animal tracks and other signs of wildlife on the farm and in the woods. After the hike, enjoy lemonade and s’mores around the campfire. Pre-registration (paid) is required.
