Michael Conlan Gives Fans a Bizarre Magic Show During Public Workout

Michael Conlan gave fans a strange magic show before promising to wipe out Leigh Wood’s world title on Saturday night.

Conlan was in a confident mood as he took part in a simple shadow boxing session during a public wotkout at The Level in Nottingham on Wednesday afternoon.

The 30-year-old will be looking to become WBA featherweight world champion when he takes on Wood in a sold-out Motorpoint Arena in three days.

Conlan gave away very little in his brief practice on Wednesday, but instead featured his cut man Russ Anber to work some magic.

Speaking to Matchroom Boxing, Conlan joked: “See the thing where there was one bullet in the girl’s hand and one in Russ’s hand and then they both ended up in his hands?

“That’s what’s going to happen Saturday night with the belts. They’ll end up in my hands.”

Conlan knows he will have to conjure up a career-best performance to dethrone WBA champion Wood in Nottingham.

But despite the high-pressure stakes of trying to win his first world title, the Falls Road native insists the pressure has died down.

“Thousands of fans will come to see me,” he said.

“I think that’s the fight where I had the least pressure on myself. Thousands of people came when I was expected to win. And you fight in front of your fans at home, in your home park.

“I fought in a purpose-built arena with over 10,000 fans there, and I bankrolled it. And you go, ‘what the fuck is going on?’. It all comes from my own accounts. And I need to win.

“It’s a lot more pressure than coming here and being the challenger against the champion in his backyard. I can’t wait.”

Conlan and Wood will have their final press conference on Thursday before Friday’s weigh-in.

And then on Saturday night they will put it all on the line, with Conlan confident that he will be crowned world champion.

“For me, the conversation is over, I’m ready to fight and I’m f****** ready for war,” he said.

“No matter what happens on Saturday night, I’m ready to go through hell and come back to get this belt.

“And I’m f****** excited.”

Conlan added: “Leigh does a lot of things very well. He has good shot selection and has power.

“He’s a talented fighter. He’s a really good fighter and he’s a world champion. And I know I’m with the best Leigh Wood.

“But I will bring the best Michael Conlan.”
