Britain’s Got Talent returns with a magicians special featuring guest judge Penn Jillette | Reality show

Britain’s Got Talent will soon be back with a one-off special.

Britain’s Got Talent: The Ultimate Magician will air later this year as the show’s greatest acts of magic go head-to-head.

Ten competing magicians from the past Got Talent series will return to the stage as they compete to crown the ultimate magician and win a cash prize of £50,000.

Regular judges Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams will be part of the panel with magic legend Penn Jillette – one half of the duo Penn & Teller – replacing Simon Cowell who has filming commitments in the United States.

Penn Jillette said, “Being a guest judge on BGT is going to be the most comfortable job ever. They’ve traveled the world to find the most amazing magicians, and I can sit back, watch, and be amazed. I can not wait!”

Stephen Mulhern will host the one-off, after which it will air on ITV and its new streaming service ITVX.

Ant & Dec were forced to withdraw from the stage due to illness.

Amelia Brown, Managing Director of Thames Producers, said: “We have scoured a huge selection of incredibly talented magicians across many Got Talent shows around the world, to bring audiences the very best performers to a stage.

“Viewers can expect a spellbinding display of talent with magic that must be seen to be believed. It is also a great pleasure to welcome one of the world’s finest magicians, Penn Jillette, to the judging panel. Having worked in the industry for nearly half a century, he is truly best in class when it comes to dazzling an audience with incredible magic.

Katie Rawcliffe, head of entertainment commissioning at ITV, added: “Some of the most breathtaking acts in the Got Talent franchise come from the world of magic, so we can’t wait to bring viewers this very magical special, in all the way, which promises to show the breadth and breadth of the show’s talents over the years.

An air date for the special is to be announced.
