Rochford’s Oliver Tabor named UK president of the International Brotherhood of Magicians

A magician from ESSEX has been appointed president of a worldwide organization of magicians.

Oliver Tabor, 43, from Rochford, has become the UK chairman of the International Brotherhood of Magicians, the “world’s largest magic club” with nearly 18,000 members.

He got into magic after a trip to Hamleys toy store when he was 12.

Oliver said there was a counter selling magic tricks, where a staff member gave him a card trick, and since then he fell in love with magic.

Mr Tabor will hold the post for a year and in his role will become an ambassador for magicians in the UK and promote engagements, meetings and conventions in the UK and overseas.

He said: “When I was 12 and saw one of the staff at Hamleys perform a card trick, I immediately wanted to do it.

“So I got a box of magic tricks for Christmas and put on a show for my family.

“Then when I left school I worked in a magic shop in London called Davenports Magic and that was my ‘Hogwarts’.

“I worked there for five years and learned so much, met all the famous magicians and was inspired.

“Since then I have worked for holiday centres, theatres, cruise ships and now have my own show in London called West End Magic at the Leicester Square theatre.”

Mr. Tabor has also performed at Alexandra Palace in London in front of thousands of people, as well as at a Beijing magic festival.

Some of his tricks include making doves appear, turning bubbles into glass balls, and levitating people.

Oliver Tabor has been a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians since the age of 16, and served on the board for five years.
